The Minnesota Twins acquired J.J. Hardy from the Milwaukee Brewers and sent outfielder Carlos Gomez to Milwaukee as part of the trade. The shortstop will replace Orlando Cabrera, who is going to become a free agent and who has not been a long-term solution anyway. J.J. Hardy is coming off a nightmarish season with the Brew Crew. In 115 games he had a pitiful batting average of .229 with 53 runs, 11 home runs and 47 RBI.
Fantasy Impact: I don’t think Hardy is good enough offensively to make it to the top of the batting order in Minnesota, which means he should get ample opportunities to bat Justin Morneau or Joe Mauer home. The shortstop has proven that he has enough talent to become a top player at his position. I expect his batting average to improve significantly from last season. For now I believe he could have 80 runs 25 home runs and 80 RBI with the Twins.
