Injury Report
Grady Sizemore’s season has come to an end one month early. The outfielder of the Cleveland Indians, who spent some time on the disabled list in June, will have surgery on his left elbow. Prospect Michael Brantley will likely take over his spot in center field.
Sizemore, a top ten draft pick in most fantasy leagues, endured the worst season of his young career. The outfielder was batting a disappointing .248 in 106 games and had 73 runs, 18 home runs, 64 RBI and 13 stolen bases.

Fantasy Impact: Grady Sizemore can be released in all leagues and formats. It is hard to find an outfielder with his potential but it’s possible to find replacements that have been more productive. I replaced Sizemore with Chris Coghlan (FLA). Hideki Matsui (NYY), J.D. Drew (BOS) and Milton Bradley (CHC) were other options worth considering.

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Chad Qualls on the 60-day disabled list with a dislocated kneecap, meaning he is done for the season. Having recently traded Jon Rauch to the Minnesota Twins, Juan Gutierrez will most likely end up being Arizona’s closer for the remainder of the season.
Chad Qualls enjoyed a solid season, recording 24 saves in 29 save opportunities and a 3.63 ERA.

Fantasy Impact: Your best and probably only option to replace Chad Qualls with is Juan Gutierrez as it’s unlikely you’ll find any closers on waiver wire.

Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Rays fractured his left hand when he was hit by a pitch and will miss the remainder of the season. The first baseman leads the AL with 39 homers and is third with 100 RBI. He needed 9 more runs to reach 100 or more runs for the first time in his career.

Fantasy Impact: Carlos Pena is virtually irreplaceable and the waiver wire will probably not offer many options to choose from. Adam LaRoche (PIT) may be your best pick. He provides you with power and a decent batting average.

Here are a few players who are expected to come off the DL soon:

Dexter Fowler (COL), Outfielder, might return September 8.
Corey Hart (MIL), Outfielder, expected to return September 8.
Francisco Liriano (MIN), Starting Pitcher, might return September 10.
Carlos Beltran (NYM), Outfielder, might return September 8.
Andruw Jones (TEX), Outfielder, expected to be activated September 8.

I have him benched but I had McLouth and Hart coming back so I can still afford him on my roster. His season has been quite a disappointment. I totally agree

I finally dropped BJ Upton because of unproductivity and injury. I hated to do it......but I'm in my leagues playoffs now and I just can't afford to carry him any more. He got me some steals this year, but he was such a disappointment. Looks like he won't play a lot anyway the rest of the way.
