The
first month of the baseball season is behind us. Time to look at some of the
players who performed the best:
C
Russell Martin (NYY) 11 runs, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 1 SB, .292 BA
It
remains a mystery to me how Martin had such a low draft value and even went
undrafted in all the leagues I’m in. After announcing that Jorge Posada would
mainly be used as DH it was clear that Martin would have significant value.
1B
Joey Votto (CIN) 22 runs, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 4 SB, .370 BA
2B
Robinson Cano (NYY) 18 runs, 8 HR, 21 RBI, 2 SB, .330 BA
3B
Placido Polanco (PHI) 18 runs, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 3 SB, .398 BA
Polanco
started off hot last season as well but cooled down as the season went on.
Don’t expect his current streak to last forever.
SS
Troy Tulowitzki (COL) 16 runs, 7 HR, 17 RBI, 2 SB, .298 BA
OF
Ryan Braun (MIL) 21 runs, 9 HR, 22 RBI, 3 SB, .358 BA
OF
Jose Bautista (TOR) 25 runs, 9 HR, 15 RBI, 4 SB, .366 BA
OF
Lance Berkman (STL) 22 runs, 8 HR, 22 RBI, .388 BA
SP
Jered Weaver (LAA) 5 wins, 1.14 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 43 K
RP
Huston Street (COL) 10 saves, 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 17 K
And
here is an All Star selection of players that probably didn’t even get drafted
in your league but you now wish you would have:
C
Russell Martin (NYY) see above
1B
Ike Davis (NYM) 16 runs, 5 HR, 20 RBI, .337 BA
2B
Angel Sanchez (HOU) 17 runs, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 1 SB, .301 BA
Despite
shortstop Clint Barmes’ return from the DL Sanchez’ spot in the starting lineup
seems safe for now as the Astros second baseman.
3B
Placido Polanco (PHI) see above
SS
Jed Lowrie (BOS) 13 runs, 3 HR, 12 RBI, .368 BA
OF
Lance Berkman (STL) 22 runs, 8 HR, 22 RBI, .388 BA
OF
Alex Gordon (KC) 20 runs, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 2 SB, .356 BA
OF
Jeff Francoeur (KC) 15 runs, 4 HR, 19 RBI, 3 SB, .316 BA
The
Royals have been a sleeping giant for years now and they seem to have woken up
at last.
SP
Kyle Lohse (STL) 4 wins, 1.64 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 24 K
RP
Brian Sanchez (FLA) 3 wins, 0.61 ERA, 0.41 WHIP, 11 K.
