Trades Revisited

Nearly 3 weeks ago I wrote about the deals at the trade deadline and what this meant for the players. You can read it again here: http://fantasysports.ucoz.com/publ/5-1-0-3. It is time to have a look at how they fared to this point:

Brad Miller. Unlike predicted he has not become the starting center for the Bulls. That job is still in the hands of Joakim Noah. It seems as Brad Miller has the task of mentoring the younger players. Most of his numbers went down. He is averaging 1 point less per game and even his rebounds went down from 8.0 (Sacramento) to 7.8 for Chicago.

I have him in one league and wish I had traded him, too.

John Salmons. My prediction was right until Luol Deng got injured. As a starter his numbers have become better than for Sacramento, especially rebounds (4.2 for the Kings and 5.3 for the Bulls) and blocks (0.2 for Sacramento and 1.0 for Chicago). That certainly compensates for the drop in assists (3.7 to 1.8)

Currently he has very good value and he will be very serviceable even when he returns to the backup role. His playing time is still high. I am glad that I hung on to him.

Rafer Alston. As predicted, his point average went down from 11.5 for Houston to 10.8 for Orlando. In fact, his poor shooting has become even poorer. He is averaging more assists though, even more than the 5.9 I predicted. In 10 games for the Magic he has 61 assists. I should mention that he gets nearly twice as many free throws per game now but his percentage dropped from 78.9% to 62.5%. That’s quite embarrassing for a guard!

Drew Gooden. I didn’t expected much from him and that’s what you got so far; 1 game in the past 3 weeks. In all fairness, that wasn’t too bad at all but he missed 6 more games. Sacramento waived him and San Antonio picked him up but he has yet to play for the Spurs.

Rashad McCants. I considered him insignificant before the trade and I stand by that to this day. His numbers did improve slightly though. He is averaging more points now (9.1 in Minnesota to 10.7 in Sacramento) and his field goal percentage improved. Don’t read too much into this though, as he is getting fewer opportunities to shoot.

Chris Wilcox. Like I said before there is no use for Wilcox in New York and it shows. His points average went down from an unimpressive 8.4 with Oklahoma City to a shambolic 3.3 with the Knicks. He has 2.3 rebounds now compared to 5.3 before the trade and is playing less than 10 minutes per game.

I told you to get rid of him, didn’t I?

Andres Nocioni. I regarded him as the big winner of the trade deadline and he hasn’t let me down thus far. I predicted him to score about 13 points per game and he scored 13.6 points in his 8 games with the Kings. I saw him pulling down 5 boards per game and that’s exactly his average with Sacramento. He gets more playing time, is shooting better and steals a little more. Only thing I was wrong about, he is not yet the starter. Or is he now? Regular starter Francisco Garcia is playing with a fractured finger but Nocioni has started the last two games.

Larry Hughes. I thought his numbers would improve a little but they have noticeably. He has started 5 consecutive games now. HE is averaging more than 30 minutes per game for the Knicks even though he didn’t play much in his first 3 games. He scored 15.6 points for New York, compared to 12 for Chicago. He has more steals now, gets more shots and a better field goal percentage and he makes more 3-pointers.

I think he is worth being picked up in a deep league now.
