Jonathan Sanchez threw the first no-hitter of the season when the San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 8-0 Friday night.
Sanchez, who now has a 4.69 ERA, could have had a perfect game if leftfielder Chase Headley hadn’t reached first base on an error by third baseman Juan Uribe.
Sanchez, who recently got demoted to the bullpen, only returned to the rotation because Randy Johnson went on the DL last week. It was Sanchez’ 3rd win this season, as opposed to 8 losses.
It took Jonathan Sanchez 110 pitches, 77 for a strike, to achieve this benchmark.
