Welcome back Mr. Josh Hamilton. This is the second time this season the Texas Rangers outfielder ended up on the 15-day disabled list. He’s eligible to come off on June 15 but the sports hernia will likely mean an absence of 4-6 weeks from big league action.
The former first draft pick choice of the Tampa Bay Rays is batting a disappointing .240 but has 20 runs, 6 home runs 24 RBI and 3 stolen bases.
Fantasy Impact: Josh Hamilton needs to be kept in all leagues and formats, especially as a timetable for his return is still unknown. Possible pick-ups on waiver wire are Michael Bourn (HOU), Aaron Rowand and Randy Winn (both SF).
Asdrubal Cabrera of the Cleveland Indians is having an All-Star like season in terms of performance, not fan votes. The shortstop has 38 runs, 2 homers, 27 RBI and 7 stolen bases, while batting .316, before a dislocated shoulder got him on the 15-day disabled list. It is still unclear whether Cabrera needs more than two weeks to recover from the injury.
Fantasy Impact: Asdrubal Cabrera is worth hanging on to, especially in deep mixed leagues and AL-only. I replaced Cabrera with Marco Scutaro (TOR) in one of my leagues. Adam Kennedy is another viable option.
Kyle Lohse went on the 15-day disabled list, for the first time in his career, with a forearm strain. It is very likely that he will be out for more than two weeks.
The starting pitcher of the St. Louis Cardinals is having a good, if inconsistent season, accounting for 4 wins, a 3.99 ERA, a WHIP of 1.22 and 39 Ks in 10 starts.
Fantasy Impact: Feel free to drop him if you have him on your roster. Replacements can be found in the daily edition of “Pitch Or Ditch”.
The latest injury victim in Major League baseball is Philadelphia Phillies closer Brad Lidge. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained knee. This move is retroactive to June 7.
Brad Lidge is having a catastrophic season, with a very concerning 7.27 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. He also blew 6 of his 19 save opportunities.
Fantasy Impact: Brad Lidge needs to be stashed in all leagues and formats. Set-up guy Ryan Madson will most likely get the most save opportunities.
Here are a few players who are expected to come off the DL soon:
Koji Uehara (BAL), Starting Pitcher, might return for June 11 start.
