Injury Report

The Chicago Cubs placed Aramis Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list because of a dislocated shoulder. Ramirez will miss at least 4-6 weeks. Mike Fontenot will see extended playing time at third base.

Aramis Ramirez has 8 runs, 4 homers and 16 RBI this season while batting .364

Ramirez should be kept in all leagues of course. Mike Fontenot’s value remains unchanged and should only be used in deep leagues or NL-only leagues.

A sore right shoulder got Joakim Soria on the 15-day disabled list. While this looks like a precautionary move it is uncertain when he will return. This is a huge blow for fantasy owners, myself included, as Soria is one of the best closers in the game.

Joakim Soria converted all 7 of his save opportunities and has an ERA of 2.08.

A new closer has not been named yet but Juan Cruz seems to be the favourite.

Joakim Soria has to be kept in all leagues and Juan Cruz should be picked up immediately, if you haven’t done so already.

The Detroit Tigers put Carlos Guillen on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore shoulder and a sore Achilles tendon. He is out until at least late May.

Guillen is hitting a meagre .200 and has 11 runs, 6 RBI and 1 stolen base in 90 at-bats. The Tigers recalled Clete Thomas and Jeff Larish from the minors.

Guillen has multiple position eligibility which makes him valuable in AL-only leagues and deep leagues. Put him on DL if possible but don’t expect any miracles from him.

The New York Yankees placed their catcher Jorge Posada on the 15-day disabled list. Posada suffered a hamstring injury and will be out until at least late May.

Backup catcher Jose Molina suffered a strained quadriceps and joined Posada on the disabled list just 3 days later.

The Yankees recalled catchers Francisco Cervelli and Kevin Cash to fill the roster spots.

Posada was off to a good start batting .312, scoring 10 runs, hitting 5 home runs and batting 20 runners in. He should be kept in all formats.

Rick Ankiel, outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals landed on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised shoulder and a whiplash. The injury occurred when he crashed headfirst into a fence while chasing down a ball.

Rick Ankiel is batting .247 and has 11 runs, 2 home runs and 11 RBI. He is expected to be out until late May.

Ankiel is a low-end outfielder at best. Drop him if you can find an adequate replacement on waiver wire.

Florida Marlins starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez suffered a shoulder sprain in his latest start and will miss at least two months.

Sanchez has 1 win in 6 games and an ERA of 5.79.

The right-handed pitcher struggled in his last 3 games after allowing only 5 runs in his first 18 innings.

Oliver Perez of the New York Mets can’t really say that his season is much of a success so far. He lost his spot in the rotation and was placed on the 15-day disabled list with patellar tendonitis. This move is retroactive to May 3. Jonathon Niese has been called up to take over the spot in the rotation.

In 5 starts Perez recorded one win and an ERA of 9.97.

Perez’ role is very uncertain once he comes off the DL. The Mets use J.J. Putz as set-up guy and K-Rod as closer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually returned to the rotation. Feel free to stash him in deep leagues or NL-only leagues as long as there is uncertainty surrounding his future role, but he will have little value if he ends up in the bullpen.

On a more positive note, here are a few valuable players who will come off the disabled list soon:

Stephen Drew (ARI), Shortstop, might return on May 11.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (BOS), Starting Pitcher, could rejoin the rotation after this weekend.

Travis Hafner (CLE), First Base, eligible on May 14.

John Lackey (LAA), Starting Pitcher, could start on May 15.

Ervin Santana (LAA), Starting Pitcher, could start on May 14.

Chien-Ming Wang (NYY), Starting Pitcher, could rejoin the rotation after May 12.

Josh Hamilton (TEX), Outfielder, expected to rejoin the Rangers on May 12

Last year I had Escobar on most of my teams, mainly because of his multiple position eligibility. He is very solid. Doesn't put up great numbers but won't let you down either. I like him.
Marco Scutaro may be an option as well. He has multiple position eligibility.

Btw, I got myself Kendry Morales for Chris Young. I'm done with this guy.

He's not a big SB guy, but what do you think of Yunel Escobar? He's available in my league. I may dump Khalil and replace him with Escobar or Burriss

If it's just a short term fix Burriss doesn't look that bad at all. Other than Lopez I wouldnt know of any available and useful SS who can steal a base every now and again.

Thanks for the comments. I've been disappointed in Khalil.....I really thought he would bounce back.

You hope for average with Placido, but he's not even giving that so far.

Burriss I see as a short term fix to give me some steals.....but that is about it, although he has been hot the last couple of weeks with the bat.

I'm pretty sure Felipe is taken in my league, but I'll check it out.

Frankly, I don't like any of these players. Greene just can't hit, Polanco was good when the Tigers lost against your Cardinals and Burriss doesn't provide much, except for SB. For him to be valuable the Giants need to keep contending.

Can you get Felipe Lopez from Arizona and does he have SS eligibility in your league? He doesnt steal as much as Burriss but he looks well balanced.

Thanks. I think it is a good move to pick up Tulowitzki.

What's your opinion on Khalil Greene? I picked him up early because I really thought he would bounce back in STL with a big year......I was thinking 20HRs again, and 70-80 RBIs. Doesn't seem to be happening for him. I'm thinking about dropping him or Placido Polanco to add Emmanuel Burriss.....partly because I need steals, but also I'm not sure he will provide any less offense than Placido.

That was a clever move regarding Hoffman. I was looking for him too but there is not a single full-time closer on waiver wire in any of my leagues. I have to monitor the situation in Washington though.

Someone dropped Tulowitzki two days ago. Now with Conor Jackson on the DL I picked him up.

That is a HUGE difference. Someone in my league released Ramirez last week for some unknown reason before he got hurt.....I put a waiver claim in on him but I didn't get him. Then the day I would have picked him up he went on the DL. I was looking at my 3B being Longoria and Ramirez.....which would have been nice.

Soria is my best closer, so it hurts. Last week when he was having shoulder problems, I picked up Hoffman as insurance......and I am glad I did now.

I agree. I picked up Cruz straight away. I'm not lucky with my closers this year.
Aramis Ramirez hurts me quite a bit as well. My 3B are DeRosa and Rolen now. What a difference!

Soria is the killer.....he's been rock solid for my team. I'm looking at picking up Cruz now.
