Week 9 is around the corner and we enter the second half of
the season. Fantasy Teams are pushing for the playoffs just as much as the Pro
Teams. Injuries can have a major impact and be the difference between success
and failure. Quick adjustments are required. Below are a few players listed
that may not play in Week 9 and possible options to replace them with:
RB Beanie Wells, Arizona Cardinals
Wells is listed as Questionable due to a knee injury, but is
going to play on Sunday according to coach Ken Whisenhunt, provided there
aren’t any setbacks. Regardless, I think the ball carrying duties will be
heavily shared with Tim Hightower. You may want to look into Willis McGahee
(BAL) and Ricky Williams (MIA), but even John Kuhn (GB) may be a viable option
against a weak Dallas Cowboys.
RB DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers
The Running Back suffers from a foot injury and is Doubtful
for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. I’d give Jonathan Stewart
some serious consideration here.
TE Owen Daniels, Houston Texans
The Tight End is listed as Questionable
and will be a game-time decision. Joel Dreessen would likely start if the
hamstring injury keeps Daniels out of the lineup. Considering that Sunday’s
opponents, the San Diego Chargers, defend well against the pass, I’d check and
see if Jacob Tamme (IND) is still available.
RB Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts
Addai is doubtful for Sunday’s game at
Philadelphia because of a neck and shoulder injury. Donald Brown and Mike Hart will
share the rushing duties but I don’t trust either player enough to acquire for
this week.
WR Dexter McCluster, Kansas City Chiefs
The Wide Receiver is listed as questionable for Sunday’s
game because of an ankle injury. This, and the fact that the Chiefs are going
to play late on Sunday, make him a risky start. Possible replacements are
Patrick Crayton (SD), Darrius Heyward-Bey (OAK) and Mike Williams (SEA).
WR Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
Harvin is listed as Questionable due to an injured ankle.
Despite facing a mediocre pass defense against the Arizona Cardinals I don’t
particularly recommend any of the Vikings receivers as possible fix.
WR Deion Branch, New England Patriots
Despite being listed as Questionable for Sunday’s game at
Cleveland Branch is expected to play. The hamstring injury doesn’t make him a
good fantasy option though. Last week he had only 1 catch for 21 yards.
RB Fred Taylor, New England Patriots
Taylor’s toe injury will once again keep him out of the
lineup. BenJarvus Green-Ellis will be the main guy in the Patriots running
offense.
RB Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints
Reggie Bush is listed as Doubtful for Sunday’s game at
Carolina Panthers but it would be a surprise if he actually got to see some
playing action. After a Bye next week he should be ready to go in Week 11.
Christopher Ivory will likely get the most rushing opportunities among the
Saints running backs.
TE Zach Miller, Oakland Raiders
Miller is listed as Doubtful for Sunday’s game against
Kansas City Chiefs with a foot injury. If you consider starting Miller’s backup
Brandon Myers bear in mind that he has 0.4 receptions per game this season.
WR Louis Murphy, Oakland Raiders
A chest injury will keep Murphy definitely out on Sunday. I
don’t consider his replacement Jacoby Ford to be a productive fantasy option.
WR Naanee Legedu, San Diego Chargers
The wide receiver is listed as Doubtful with a hamstring
injury and will miss Sunday’s clash with the Houston Texans. Patrick Crayton
should definitely be added if he’s still available.
WR Malcolm Floyd, San Diego Chargers
Floyd is the other designated starter at wideout and, like
Legedu, he will miss Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury.
TE Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
Gates is currently listed as Doubtful with
a foot injury but will likely play. With Legedu and Floyd already sidelined,
the Chargers will be desperate for someone to keep the very potent pass offense
going.
QB Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks
Matt Hasselback will be held out of the
lineup for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. If you are desperate for
a QB pick his backup Charlie Whitehurst up but don’t expect any fantasy
miracles from him against one of the nastiest defenses in the league.
WR Sammie Stroughter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The wide receiver will likely miss Sunday’s game with a foot
injury. Don’t even think about considering his potential replacement Maurice
Stovall, who has 0.7 yards per game this season.
