Review of the Whitney - Kunitz trade

After the trade was official I wrote here http://fantasysports.ucoz.com/publ/4-1-0-5 that I don’t expect a significant change in Kunitz’ numbers, unless the Pens improve. As a matter of fact, Pittsburgh hasn’t lost a game in regulation since the trade. It would be too much to say that this happened because of Chris Kunitz but his numbers got a huge boost:

In Anaheim he scored 0.25 goals per game. In Pittsburgh it’s 0.55 (based on 9 games).

In Anaheim he had 0.56 points per game. In Pittsburgh it’s 1.22.

In Anaheim he had 3 power play goals in 62 games. In Pittsburgh he scored 2.

In Anaheim he had a +9 rating. In Pittsburgh it’s +5.

Playing on a line with Sid Crosby and Bill Guerin sure does have its perks. He is still available in many leagues. You may want to pick him up now. He has been one of the best players in the past month.

Even though there weren’t any more significant trades for Anaheim, except for the Montador trade, Whitney’s numbers remain unspectacular.

Whitney has 3 points in 7 games for the Ducks so far, all assists, which is as much as the 13 points he had in 28 games for the Pens. Whitney has yet to score on the power play.

Whitney is still available in most leagues. There is no need to pick him up unless you’re in a very deep league and desperate for a defenseman.
