This is a Top List of the best players per position for the week from 01/03/09 – 08/03/09:

Point Guards:

1) Steve Nash (PHO)

Nash is definitely on fire since returning from injury. In 3 games he averaged 27 points, 10.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2 steals. He shot .567 from the field, .857 from the line and made 2.3 3-pointers.

2) Jarrett Jack (IND)

He’s often been overlooked but he is making the most of his starts, literally. He averaged 24 points, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 4 games last week. He made half of his field goal attempts and missed only one free throw.

Even though Danny Granger is expected to return next week Jack should still see a lot of minutes and most likely even starts. He is still available in many leagues and should be added.

3) Chris Paul (NO)

He may have had fewer points than usual, 19.5, but the rest is still impressive: 12.3 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, a FG% of .471 and 11 of 12 free throws.

4) Mo Williams (CLE)

He is no assist-stud but he was incredibly productive, scoring 24 points in 5 games and pulling down 4 boards. He was extremely on target from the field as well as the charity stripe and made 3.8 3-pointers per game.

5) Randy Foye (MIN)

He started two games last week, missed one and played through pain in another one. Nonetheless he averaged 22 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals. His FG% may not have been very good but he made all of his 20 free throws.

Shooting Guards:

1) Dwayne Wade (MIA)

Another week, another point average over 30, 35.8 to be precise. The other stats are very impressive as well: 11.3 assists, 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 steals. He made 9 3-pointers in 4 games and had a FG% of .567

2) Kobe Bryant (LAL)

He beat Dwayne Wade only in the FT% category last week, yet his stats are no less impressive: 34.3 points in 3 games, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 3-pointers per game and he made all of his 21 free throws.

3) Thabo Sefolosha (OKC)

I am not joking bur he was quite effective in the 2 games he played last week. He had 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1.5 steals and 3 assists. He went 13 for 25 from the field.

4) Ronnie Brewer (UTA)

He’s another player you might not expect on this list but he had a very good week indeed, scoring 18.7 points in 3 games, 3.3 steals, 4.3 rebounds and 3 assists. He made 16 of his 18 free throws and had a FG% of .513

5) Rasual Butler (NO)

A very good week for him as he averaged 19 points, and 5.8 rebounds, well above his average for the season. He made 9 of 20 3-point attempts and 51% of his field goal attempts.

He is still available in most leagues.

Small Forwards:

1) Rashard Lewis (ORL)

He has been outstanding last week, contributing to every category: 25 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block. He shot 17 of 34 from the field, 5 for 13 from beyond the arc and 11 for 12 from the free throw line.

2) Rudy Gay (MEM)

He left the last game with an injury and is questionable for the next game but he put up solid numbers regardless. He had 19 points per game last week, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. He didn’t miss any of his 9 free throws.

3) Ron Artest (HOU)

With Rafer Alston gone and Tracy McGrady injured his numbers just had to improve. Last week showed that with a point average of 20.5, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1 steal. He made 3.3 3-pointers per game and shot 52.5% from the field.

4) Gerald Wallace (CHA)

His numbers are above his season average. He averaged 18 points in 3 games, 8 rebounds and 1.3 steals. A FG% of .541 and FT% of .846 aren’t bad either.

5) LeBron James (CLE)

5 games in a week take its toll but the numbers are still very good: 25.2 points per game, 7.6 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1 steal and 14 of 27 3-pointers made.

Power Forward:

1) Dirk Nowitzki (DAL)

In his case 5 games a week don’t take a toll. He averaged 27.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1 steal and 1.2 blocks. He made a little more than 50% of his shots from the field and made 35 of his 38 foul shots.

2) Al Harrington (NYY)

He was quite the thief last week, averaging 4 steals in 2 games last week. He pulled down 6 boards per game and made 6 of 13 shots beyond the arc.

3) Chris Bosh (TOR)

It looks like he is feeling more comfortable playing alongside Shawn Marion than Jermaine O’Neal. That resulted in 29 points per game, 8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks last week. A FT% of .800 is quite good for a big guy.

4) David West (NO)

He had a good week during a 4-win stretch, scoring 23.8 points on average, 10.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. While his FG% may be low, his FT% of .885 is more than useful.

5) Al Horford (ATL)

His numbers were very solid last week. He averaged, 15.8 points per game, 10 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks. I also like his FG% of .576 and FT% of .917.

Centers:

1) Mark Gasol (MEM)

I have him on one of my teams for a lack of better options and he has been reasonably serviceable so far. But last week was just amazing: 22.3 points per game, 11.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 3 blocks and 1.3 steals. It’s also worth mentioning that he made 23 of his 30 field goal attempts.

2) Troy Murphy (IND)

He certainly helped his averages last week, scoring 19.5 points per game, 14.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks. He also made 14 3-pointers in 4 games.

3) Andrea Bargnani (TOR)

Many fantasy experts thought his value would decrease with the acquisition of Shawn Marion but Bargnani proved them wrong with his display last week. He had 22 points per game last week, 3 blocks and 1 steal. He made all of his free throws and averaged 2 3-pointers per game.

You are lucky if you find him on the waiver wire now.

4) Yao Ming (HOU)

He had 3.5 blocks per game last week, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, which is well above his average. His point average was a little lower with 17.8 but he was very much on target from the charity stripe, making 17 of his 18 attempts.

5) Brook Lopez (NJ)

I am glad I picked him, up a while ago because he is improving steadily. His defensive stats look very good. He had 8.8 rebounds per game last week and 2 blocks. He scored 12.5 points on 21 for 30 from the field and 8 for 10 from the line.
