This is a Top List of the best players per position for the week from 15/02/09 – 22/02/09:

Point Guards:

1) Leandro Barbosa (PHO)

I am not joking and he isn’t even a starter but he did extraordinarily well during the Suns’ return to a fast paced style. Barbosa averaged 26 points in 3 games, had 5.3 assists and rebounds and, more noticeably, 4.3 steals. He made 68.9% of his shots, all of his free throws and made 9 3 pointers on 14 attempts!

2) Nate Robinson (NY)

Here’s another case of a non-starter having a great week. He averaged 29 points in 2 games, 7.5 rebounds and 5 assists. He had 8 3 pointers and a field goal percentage of .561.

3) Chris Paul (NO)

I’d expect him on this list every week. Last week he had 25.5 games in 4 games, 10.3 assists, 2.8 steals and 4.8 rebounds. A field goal percentage of .560 and 82.4% of free throws made are pretty good as well.

4) Kirk Hinrich (CHI)

He isn’t a starter either but he is still logging a considerable amount of playing time. This lead to a 20 points average in 2 games last week, 5 assists and 3 3-pointers. He did not miss a single shot from the charity stripe and made 52.4% of his shots from the field. He is still available in most leagues and certainly an option to be picked up as long as he gets that much playing time.

5) Jason Kidd (DAL)

His career is in decline but he is still one of the best point guards, as shown last week. He had 5 rebounds, 8.7 assists, 2 steals and less than 2 turnovers per game. 65% of his shots were on target and he made 7 3-pointers.

Shooting Guards:

1) Dwayne Wade (MIA)

What a week he’s had, even though the Heat played only 2 games: 31 points, 10.5 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals, 4 rebounds and he only missed one of 23 free throws. He was also on target on 20 of his 36 field goal attempts.

2) Jason Richardson (PHO)

The Suns’ guard was especially accurate from the field, making 70% of his shots. Other remarkable achievements were his 25.5 points, 6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 3.5 3-pointers.

3) Ben Gordon (CHI)

I have him on most of my teams and have declined all trade requests so far. He’s just too productive. Last week he averaged 27.5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 turnovers, 2.5 3-pointers. He also made all of his free throws and half of is field goal attempts.

4) Brandon Roy (POR)

He too had quite a remarkable week. He averaged 25.5 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.5 steals in 2 games. Ben Gordon is ahead of him because he was more accurate and more successful from beyond the arc.

5) Stephen Jackson (GS)

If only he didn’t turn the ball over that often, 6.5 times last week. Apart from that he was outstanding, scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 2.5 3-pointers and he made all of his free throws.

Small Forwards:

1) Kevin Durant (OKC)

He is developing into a superstar and may well be leading the thunder to significance if he cares to stick around long enough. He scored an amazing 38 points per game last week and added 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 3-pointers to his numbers. He was also very accurate from the charity stripe and made 57.1% of his field goal attempts.

2) LeBron James (CLE)

I would be surprised if he wasn’t on this list. Last week he averaged 37.5 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 3-pointers.

3) Francisco Garcia (SAC)

I’m still convinced that Garcia’s days as starter are numbered with the arrival of Andres Nocioni. Nonetheless he had a pretty productive week, accounting for 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 2 blocks, 2 3-pointers and a free throw percentage of 91.7.

4) Corey Maggette (GS)

It is amazing what he does, coming off the bench. Last week he had 24.5 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and was very successful from the field as well as from the free throw line.

5 Wilson Chandler (NY)

Despite of all the new acquisitions, Chandler may well remain a starter. Last week was one of his better weeks with 24.5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and 4 3-pointer.

Power Forward:

1) Antonio McDyess (DET)

His number last week were insane: 18.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 70.8% of his shots were on target. You can still pick him up in most leagues.

2) Ronny Turiaf (GS)

Usually he’s only good for blocks, and he had 3 per game last week, but he also scored 13.5 points, made all of his free throws and shot a remarkable .846 from the field. Andris Biedrins is expected back next week and that will push Turiaf back to the bench.

3) Tyrus Thomas (CHI)

I picked him up a while ago because I needed a few blocks but he is more flexible than I anticipated. Last week he also gave me 14.5 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks, a field goal percentage of .556 and a free throw percentage of .818. Brad Miller’s acquisition may cut into his time a little but not as much as into Joakim Noah’s.

4) David Lee (NY)

I drafted him because I was hoping this season would a step forward in his development and I was right. Last week he had 18.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.5 steals and he made 7 of 8 free throws.

5) David West (NO)

He had quite a solid week, averaging 21.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4 assists and made 27 of his 31 free throws.

Centers:

1) Amar’e Stoudemire (PHO)

Even though he won’t play anymore in the regular season he was still the best at his position last week. He averaged 32.5 points, had 8 rebounds and was remarkable from the field as well as from the charity stripe.

2) Pau Gasol (LAL)

18.7 points, 12.7 rebounds and 7 assists are not too shabby and he made all of his 8 free throws.

3) Dwight Howard (ORL)

I’d be surprised if you could still draft him past the third round next year. He’s been stellar all season long. He blocked 5 shots per game last week, scored 23.3 points, pulled down 14.3 balls, stole the ball 1.3 times and shot .657 from the field.

4) Mehmet Okur (UTA)

He does occasionally perform below his capabilities but this wasn’t the case last week when he had 22 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1 block, 2.5 3-pointers and 5 for 6 free throws.

5) Brooke Lopez (NJ)

He has certainly improved this season and I’m glad I picked him up when a few centers got injured. Last week he averaged 17.7 points, 8 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, made all of his free throws and shot over 60% from the field.
